Mundaring Hills Open Studios

  You are invited to join me in my studio to view my new work, a series of sequential drawings, titled Nature Morte.   I have used mainly colored pencils for their delicate mark-making to express decay in nature and to continue to explore the transient passage of time.   My low tech, time-consuming techniques of rendering still life in colour pencils are in total contrast to the fast-paced development in visual technologies increasingly apparent in some forms of contemporary art.

Shire of Mundaring Art Acquisition exhibition 2018  The Rider, oil on canvas, previously acquired by the Shire of Mundaring will be on show at the Mundaring Art Centre from February 9 –April 1, 2018. In 2006, an Invitational group exhibition From Track To Trail, traced community life around the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. The Rider represents landscape and histories that have developed around this railway line, particularly around the tunnel, located in the J Forrest National Park. In 2018 the Queen’s Baton Relay will tour from Midland to Guildford as part of its journey towards the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Timed to celebrate this event, Relay brings together a diverse group of Western Australian artists to present art objects that speak of our unique local sporting culture and history.

The exhibition carries messages of community pride, national spectacle and commonwealth diversity; featuring works by esteemed and emerging artists, including Peter Dailey, Judith Forrest, Ron Gomboc, Marie Haass, Fiona Harman, Robert Hitchcock, Alex Maciver, Desmond Mah, Nalda Searles, Bruce Slatter, Nicole Slatter, Alastair Taylor and Richard Woldendorp.

See Midland come alive for the Queen’s Baton Relay event on Monday 26 February, as the baton passes through the City of Swan on its journey to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. To celebrate this event, Midland Junction Arts Centre will be open from 12pm – 4pm, with an artist panel discussion to take place from 1pm – 2.30pm (approx).

Artists participating in the Relay exhibition will come together to discuss their works in the exhibition and the broader significance of cultural events, including sports and the arts, in building a strong, inclusive community.
